HeadHunter Swim Families,
We have exciting news! David, Terrance and I have been working on a re-organization of our swim team. Our goal is to provide better service to our swimmers by placing them in smaller, more varied groups within their age group. I visited 3 successful swim teams who are all our size or a little bigger (200-400 swimmers) to see how they handle their groups. After many hours of discussion and research, your coaching staff has come up with the following new plan:
We will have three basic groups: Development (10&under), Junior (11-13yrs) and Senior (14&up). These three groups are based solely on age. A swimmer will move up to the next group the 1st of the month after the birthday that ages them up. No exceptions.
Within each of the three groups, there will be 3 smaller groups based on swimmer commitment and ability: Level 1 has no attendance or swim meet commitments; these swimmers simply commit to having fun, being positive, trying hard and being a good team mate. In Level 2, swimmers commit to attending at least 80% of all practices, attending club nights, and at least 2 USA meets per year, plus the state championship meets in March & July if qualified or placed on a relay. In Level 3, swimmers have 5-10 practices a week, and commit to attending at least 80% of all practices, attending club nights (no charge for club night for level 3s), and at least 2 USA meets every 3 months (8/year), plus the state championship meets in March & July if qualified or placed on a relay.
To qualify for each level, there is a list of requirements of skills and speed, in addition to the swimmer’s commitment level. Once we take a look at both of these (ability and commitment level), we will place each swimmer in a level (1-3) within their age group (Dev, Jr or Sr).
We can, and will, change these group as often as needed, based on the criteria; if a swimmer is not attending 80% of the level 3 practices, they will be moved to level 2 the first of the month. If a swimmer is in level 2 and meets the criteria for level 3, they will move to level 3 the first of the month. All of the swimmers in an age group will incur the same dues, so there will be no need to resign contracts for moves with the age group.
